WINSLOW ART STUDIO is the unique teaching studio of John (Jack) and Karen Winslow, Vermont Realists, and featured artists in American Artist magazine.  All of their paintings are from life (not photographs), and the Winslows are among the few artists today who are reviving and upholding "Old Master" techniques and traditional craftsmanship.  They grind most of their paints, make their own mediums and varnishes, and prepare the finest Belgian or Irish linen, panels or 100% rag paper with the best grounds.

The paintings of John and Karen Winslow reflect the many years of study with the great Classical painter, Frank Mason, at the Art Students League in New York City and in his landscape workshops in Vermont.  Since 1979, when they opened WINSLOW ART STUDIO in Vermont, they have sold over 800 paintings as regular exhibitors in galleries around the country. Karen has traveled to Japan where she demonstrated portrait drawing at the Gifu Museum of Fine Art, and  AMERICAN ARTIST magazine wrote a major feature about them with John's painting "Vermont Summer",   on the cover of the February 1991 issue (pages 24-31 and 80-83). Their permanent collections include:  The Fleming Museum in Vermont; the Howard Bank; Merchants Bank; Basin Harbor Club; Woodstock Inn; Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh; International Silver Company;  Wakefield Group and Johnson State College.

Flower Painting Demonstration for workshop at Lyme Art Association in Old Lyme, CT.

Karen Winslow teaches workshops throughout the year in portrait, outdoor landscape, still life, figure and floral to serious art students of all abilities.  In all of her classes, she paints along side of her students, demonstrating and explaning the "how" and "why" of artistic principles to help the student translate what they see into a painting.  All classes are from life in oils, watercolors and pastels.  She teaches "atelier" fashion and learning is incremental.  Students are expected to master their understanding of basic forms, and practice to uphold the highest standard of craftsmanship and draftsmanship.
